Ghana international, Sulley Muntari, has reportedly turned down an offer from South African top-flight club, Maritzburg United, in favour of a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs.
The former AC Milan midfielder back in July told South African radio station, Metro FM: “… if I’m going to South Africa, there is only one team I want to play for, that is Chiefs.”
Popular South African outlet, KickOff.com, has gathered that Maritzburg United have made a bid to sign the 2010 UEFA Champions League winner, but Muntari has turned it down.
“Maritzburg United have engaged the player’s representatives to discuss the potential of the player moving to KwaZulu-Natal this coming season,” a source within the club told KickOff.com.
“But the player has made up his mind and only wants to play for Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa.”
The 36-year-old is a free agent after his short-term contract with Spanish side Albacete expired at the end of last season.
Kaizer Chiefs are currently banned by FIFA from signing any player for the next two transfer windows unless their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport is successful for any move for Muntari to happen.
