Asante Kotoko are set to take on Legon Cities in an outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture, aiming to get back on track following a 1-1 draw over the weekend against Basake Holy Stars.
The Porcupine Warriors had recently built strong momentum with three consecutive wins, and after securing a first-half lead in their last game, they seemed poised for a fourth. However, a late equalizer from Holy Stars halted their streak and left Kotoko still in second place, three points behind leaders Bibiani Goldstars.
A victory against Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Stadium would help Kotoko narrow that gap, reinforcing their title hopes. Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum will be rallying his squad, including in-form players like Justice Blay and Gilbani Samba O’Neil, to deliver a much-needed win.
Meanwhile, Legon Cities are enduring a challenging season. Despite a promising lineup, they’ve struggled for form, suffering recent losses to Berekum Chelsea, Nsoatreman, and Karela, and are winless in their last eight outings. Head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin is under pressure to tighten up defensively, with the team conceding in eight consecutive matches and fans growing impatient after a recent goalless draw against Dreams FC.
In head-to-head encounters, Kotoko holds the advantage. Since December 2021, they have defeated Legon Cities three times in six meetings, with Legon Cities winning once and two matches ending in draws. Kotoko’s most recent victory over them was a 2-0 win on May 5, 2024, further boosting their morale heading into Wednesday’s clash.
Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM at the University of Ghana Stadium, where Kotoko will aim to close the gap on Goldstars and reassert their dominance in the title race.
