Hohoe United’s first-ever Ghana Premier League home match ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw with Young Apostles on Saturday.
A packed Hohoe Stadium witnessed an exciting end-to-end contest as both teams created chances in a goalless first half. The breakthrough finally came just two minutes after the restart when Abass Ganiu wrote his name in the club’s history books by scoring Hohoe United’s first-ever Premier League goal. The former Eleven Wonders striker timed his run perfectly to connect a precise cross from Kwadwo Boamah.
Young Apostles responded strongly, with Abdul testing goalkeeper Kwesi Nketiah from distance, only to see his effort tipped away for a corner. Hohoe captain Usman Safianu later missed a golden opportunity to extend the lead when he struck wide from close range after a fine move from the left.
The visitors made Hohoe pay for that miss in the 74th minute. Substitute Richmond Opoku finished off a superb team move to bring Young Apostles level, ensuring both sides shared the spoils at full time.
Hohoe United will now travel to Tema to face Vision FC in their next league fixture, while Young Apostles host Dreams FC in Wenchi on matchday three.
