Ghana’s Black Starlets have qualified for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after beating Nigeria 2-0 in the semi-final of the WAFU Zone B Championship at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro.
The goals came in the first half. Michael Awuni scored in the 21st minute to give Ghana the lead, before Robhino Gavi Yao doubled the advantage ten minutes later with a fine strike.
Nigeria tried to fight back, but Ghana’s goalkeeper Solomon Kwame made several brilliant saves to protect the lead. The Starlets also missed chances to add more goals, especially through Narbi Joseph, but held on strongly.
In the second half, Ghana focused on defending and counter-attacks, while Nigeria pushed for a comeback. However, the Black Starlets stayed solid and finished the game without conceding.
The win means Ghana will face Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday, a repeat of their group-stage clash which the Ivorians won.
With this victory, Ghana not only reached the WAFU B final but also secured their place in the next U-17 AFCON.
