Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil has revealed that the Porcupine Warriors will use the upcoming GHALCA Top 4 competition as a crucial part of their preparations for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Kotoko, who will return to continental football for the first time since 2022, are set to compete in the preseason tournament against sworn rivals Hearts of Oak, Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Goldstars, and Heart of Lions. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on August 20 in Accra.
Speaking ahead of the competition, O’Neil highlighted the significance of the GHALCA Top 4 in building momentum for Africa.
“The Top 4 is a very big competition with a rich history. We are using it to prepare for the Africa campaign,” he said.
Kotoko qualified for the Confederation Cup after clinching the Ghana FA Cup last season. They will face Nigeria’s Kwara United in the first preliminary round, with the first leg to be played in Kumasi between September 19 and 21 before traveling for the return fixture in Ilorin from September 26 to 28.
Victory over Kwara United will see Kotoko advance to the second preliminary round, where they are likely to face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. The first leg of that clash is scheduled between October 17 and 19, with the decisive second leg to follow from October 24 to 26.
The Porcupine Warriors are determined to make a strong impact on their return to the continental stage, with the GHALCA Top 4 expected to sharpen their squad ahead of the demanding campaign.
