German-born defender Derrick Köhn has officially completed his switch of international allegiance to Ghana and earned a call-up to the national team for the first time with the “Black Stars.”
The move comes after a period of anticipation, as Köhn had previously been included in the squad but remained unused in competitive fixtures.
Last September, Köhn was called up by Ghana coach Otto Addo ahead of the African World Cup qualifiers. He was part of the squad for the 1-1 draw against Chad and the 1-0 victory over Mali, but he did not feature in either match. Now, with Ghana preparing for a series of international friendlies, the versatile defender finally has the opportunity to make his senior debut.
The Black Stars are embarking on a tour of Asia, where they will face Japan and South Korea in two high-profile friendly matches. These fixtures are part of Ghana’s preparation for upcoming competitive tournaments and provide an ideal platform for players like Köhn to stake their claim in the squad.
Köhn, who has built a solid reputation in European club football, expressed his excitement at joining the Ghanaian national team. His inclusion adds depth to the Black Stars’ defensive options and brings a fresh dynamic to Otto Addo’s plans.
Ghanaian football fans will now eagerly watch as the 25-year-old defender steps onto the international stage, hoping he can make a strong impression and help the Black Stars continue to strengthen ahead of major competitions.
