Former Black Stars head coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor has asked Ghanaians to be patient with Southampton player Mohammed Salisu over his refusal to play for Black Stars.
According to the former Ghana captain and coach, the player must be given the needed support as he thinks may be having a genuine issues leading to his constant refusal to honour call-ups.
Speaking to GHOne TV in an exclusive interview CK threw lights on what happened during his era as coach of the Black Stars insisting that he invited Salisu but the player at the time declined the call-ups.
“It is true, I personally contacted him but it didn’t work. I went to Spain and that was my first time and i tried reaching out to all the guys except him.” he said.
Nonetheless, CK Akonnor believes the player might have some personal reasons best known to himself for not honouring the call ups. He therefore advised Ghanaians to be patient with the player.
“Maybe there is more to it than what we are hearing. I’m not blaming him, he has reasons for what is going on. Maybe someone needs to speak with him otherwise you get mad and you would not understand him. ” he concluded.
