The West Africans side recorded a sparkling start to the ongoing 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.
Ghana’s Black Maidens registered their superiority over hosts country Uruguay by whipping them 5-0 in their Group A opening game on Tuesday night at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo.
Captain Abdulai Mukarama netted a hat-trick with Fuseina Mumuni and substitute Millot Pokuaa scoring one each to give Evans Adotey’s side an emphatic victory over the hosts country.
Abdulai Mukarama found Fuseina Mumuni on the 20th minute in the box with the latter turning a 180 degrees beautifully to put the ball into the net.
Ruth Anima however, saw her left-footed cross being perfectly met by captain and striker Abdulai Mukarama’s header t double the Black Maidens lead.
The hosts were forced to make another change after Goalkeeper Jenifer Sosa was injured after colliding with Ghana’s Fuseina Mumuni.
Jenifer Sosa was replaced by Augustina Caraballo with Mumuni also being replaced by Millot Abena Pokuaa.
Black from recess, Uruguay started piling pressure on the Ghanaian team but couldn’t make that count much as first half substitute Millot Pokuaa made it 3-0 for Ghana in the 68th minute with with a cool finish.
Ghana quickly took control of the game in their quest to score more goals.
Their dominance finally paid off in the 77th minute when Captain Abdulai Mukarama calmly slotted in Susan Teye’s cross to finish her brace and the Black Maidens fourth on the night.
As if they were enough, Abdulai Mukarama again struck on stoppage time to complete her hat-trick on the night.
Ghana will take on Finland in their second group A game on Friday at 7pm local time.
Ghana’s best performance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was in 2012, when the team won Bronze on her maiden appearance.
