When Diego Armando Maradona (30th October 1960 – 25th November 2020) scored his second goal which was trailed by a 60m(66yd) dribble past 5 England players in the quarter final of the Mexico 1986 World Cup, very few football fans across the world then could manage any resistance to the involuntary clucking and the shaking of heads that preceded the questioning of Maradona’s humanity.
So supernal was Maradona considered for his accomplishments that about 12 years after the 1986 World Cup, on his 38th birthday in his home country of Argentina, the city of Rosario, three unfailing fans of his: Hector Campomar, Alejandro Verón and Hernán Amez founded The Iglesia Maradoniana (English: Church of Maradona; literally Maradonian Church). A syncretism or religion (either of them may hinge on what religious definition you employ) to worship and preserve the memory of the Argentine legend.
As if to extend the godlike halo of Maradona the church had their own Ten Commandments:
1)The ball is never soiled.
2)Love football above all else.
3)Declare unconditional love for Diego and the beauty of football.
4)Defend the Argentina shirt.
5)Spread the news of Diego’s miracles throughout the universe.
6)Honor the temples where he played and his sacred shirts.
7)Don’t proclaim Diego as a member of any single team.
8)Preach and spread the principles of the Church of Maradona.
9)Make Diego your middle name
10)Name your first son Diego
Maradona’s ardent talent the nature of which cannot easily be traced to mortals has earned him a godly status in his home country.
Pelé, like Maradona after him, retains an iconic standing in his home country Brazil. Peak era Pelé was a depository of genuine ingenuity. Hailed by many as the greatest player ever, Edson Arantes do Nascimento (23 October 1940 – ) was in 1999 named the ATHLETE of the century by the international Olympic Committee, and was included in the TIME list of the 100 most important people in the 20th century. So great was Pelé in his playing days that in an era when money was nearly a rare substance in football, he was for a period the best paid ATHLETE in the world. He is Brazil’s all time top scorer, along with many other feats that make us consider him with our heads tilted back.
Michel Platini, Zinidine Zidane, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo among others of modern history have contributed their efforts in transforming our acquiescence in the view that mortals are capable of celestial feats, into a complete belief in that.
So what made them so great? Were they great because others were just too small, or they were superlative because others were lazy in their own habituation and did not sufficiently extend themselves to reach their heights? What if others had been as hard working and talented; drawing the driver that impels all great men to the crests of their careers with them also, would that podium of greatness be enough for all?  To our own selves, we have bumped into moments when our willing souls have found our bodies too weak to run down a goal and realize it. Yet as we stayed down labouring for breath, we saw others march on to realize further goals as if they were clothed in some otherworldly flesh.
Hang their accomplishments on hard work, socio-economic factors, judicious use of time, and chide the small for the supposed prostitution of precious time and laziness and I bet you, you would still not make a safe landing on the right answer.
Before we get to the threshold of this extensive crux, let me quite reluctantly submit my respect to hard work and assiduity. In an advanced sense these two qualities are themselves subject to fate. I find it all too easy to accept that there is a genuine sense of destiny about great feats, and an element of good fortune that closely trail them.
As the scales of myths continue to fall off our eyes and principles and doctrines continue to cede to failures, more and more studies were always going to be made into the dynamics of our universe.
‘Football and Numerology’, spawned by the above train of thought is a novel subject that will attempt without fail to demystify the puzzle and wonder surrounding amazing football countries’ successes and the exploits of great footballers past and present. Here numerology will be procured to explain without fail or doubts the questions of WHY and HOW?
This is a subject that spills the beans and gives the game of the gods away. It will operate within the strict context of football. I will however leave my email address at the foot of every article for questions within and without the operational space of ‘football and Numerology’, just as long as it concerns numerology though. After all it is the employed instrument here.
The truth is knowledge and knowledge is power. What is life without knowledge and what is knowledge if it is not shared? About six years ago on my way to a friend’s, I found myself so absorbed in thought to the extent of my chin almost hugging my chest. It had to take me close to a minute at precisely the point where the road forks to elect which branch to take. The near 1 minute that stayed with me drew some two young men who where behind me then to the left branch just in front of me. As they walked down it I followed suit, quite involuntarily. As if out of my will, my head lifted and my eyes met a reading on the back of the T-shirt one of them wore. It read: ‘learn and serve’. It was not until 3 years ago that this came home to me.
Over the coming periods we will be hovering around the very jurisdiction of the gods on the wings of numerology. As we attempt to understand the performers of our game and how results come about through them.
Since  no understanding of any subject can be complete without the basics, let us define numerology then.
WHAT IS NUMEROLOGY? : It is the study of the spiritual influence of numbers on human affairs.
TYPES OF NUMEROLOGY: there are many types of numerology. The 4 major ones are:
1) Chaldean Numerology
2) Kabbalah Numerology
3) Tamil Numerology
4) Western/Pythagorean Numerology.
No need, don’t trouble yourself much about the first 3. Our entire focus will be on Western/Pythagorean Numerology.
Western Numerology is also known as Pythagorean Numerology, and this form was developed by Pythagoras who was a Greek philosopher and a mathematician. This type of Numerology came about because he thought that everything could be broken down into numbers or mathematical calculations. All the numbers ranging from 1-9 hold certain energy and vibrations which can be both used positively or negatively. This form of Numerology is mostly used by the WESTERN COUNTRIES today and is among the most popular form to be used till now.
Let’s look at the relation between Pythagoras and Numerology. Pythagoras is considered to be the father of Numerology, and hence the name Pythagorean Numerology. Pythagoras was basically a Greek philosopher and mathematician, but later on in his life, he also worked on subjects like religion, politics, metaphysics, and mysticism, like many other greats, whose work ultimately brought them close to the higher reality of life. He tried to address all these topics in public and gained huge popularity. Pythagorean numerology analysis is also known as Western numerology or Modern numerology. It has made its name popular as it helps in reading the character and predicting the timings of events, etc.
Pythagorean numerology analysis, during recent times, has gained immense popularity, especially amongst celebrities. This method may have been less common in the past, but according to some new-age numerologists, this is the most accurate numerology system.
The Pythagorean system will be largely employed in handling alphabets. But since numbers are the same everywhere, we may import some numerical meanings from other numerologies especially the Tamil and Chaldean.
In Numerology a person is ruled by his or her DATE OF BIRTH and the FULL BIRTH NAME. The DATE OF BIRTH and the FULL BIRTH NAME. NOTE: it should be the full birth name not the legally changed name, that is: all the names that you were given on your naming ceremony and as they appear on your birth certificate. NOT to include the name or names that were added later. This should be extremely correct to ensure accurate numerological predictions. The slightest mistake or the smallest omission in any of this information will render the predictions warped. For a footballer the events across his career are enough pointers to guide us in knowing whether he has the right information out there or not. His personality and private life’s affairs that have spilled into public knowledge over the course of his career are often enough to tell if they are using the RIGHT date of birth and birth name or NOT.  How a person walks, talks, reactions to adverse events, the controversies he courts etc can all be explained with numerology.
For example: a very shy and an introvert footballer who still shows a lot of intelligence in his play must have a dominant ‘7’ in his numerological chat. 7 makes him very intelligent especially in his calculations but also reserved and introvertish. This is especially true when 7 is very dominant in the Numerological Chat. In his private life he may face challenges in marriage if the other numbers in the chat are not that good. If there are good numbers to support the ‘7’  he will look handsome, conversely, he will not be prepossessing one bit.
Let us not get ahead of ourselves here, this is by no means easy-peasy, however much it may look simple at first meeting. It is certainly attended with minute attention to details. And mastery of it cannot in any way be the product of a brief stint experience.
In numerology we have:
THE DAY NUMBER,
THE LIFE PATH NUMBER,
EXPRESSION OR NAME OR DESTINY NUMBER,
The hidden passion number,
The karmic lesson number,
The karmic debt number,
The heart desire number,
The personality number,
Sun number,
ETC.
Next week we will look critically at the numbers, day numbers precisely and their vibrational impacts on us. Understanding the numerological numbers are the major stepping stones to everything numerology. That is, ‘Football and Numerology’. The goal on this website is to help readers understand the ‘HOWS’ and answer The ‘WHYS’ in football.
Send your questions about NUMEROLOGY to the email address below.
