FC Samartex 1996, the surprise winners of the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League, have dominated the end-of-year Team of the Season picks by former Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics player, Laryea Kingston.
The Samreboi-based club’s impressive campaign saw three of their players make it to the Ghana Premier League Best XI, with head coach Nurudeen Amadu named as the manager of the group. Midfielder and captain Emmanuel Keyekeh, winger Evans Osei Wusu, and goalkeeper Kofi Baah were the Samartex players named in the team.
Keyekeh, who was also named the Home-Based Player of the Year at the Ghana Football Awards, was a standout performer for Samartex throughout the season. Berekum Chelsea’s striker Stephen Amankona, Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Steven Dese Mukwala, and Nsoatreman FC midfielder Abdul Umar Manaf were the other players to make the cut.
Amankona topped the goal scorers’ chart with 19 goals, while Manaf won the MTN FA Cup with Nsoatreman via a penalty shootout win over Bono rival Bofoakwa Tano. Veteran defender Razak Simpson of Nations FC was named captain of the GPL Best XI.
