Ghanaian versatile defender Yakubu Mohammed is the center of attraction of what promises to be a transfer tussle between top flight sides Asante Kotoko, Medeama SC, Hearts of Oak and Legon Cities, SportsworldGhana.com can report exclusively.
The former Ghana U-20 defender has been a pillar in defence for Azam FC in the Tanzania Premier League since he joined them in 2016 from Dormaa-based Aduana Stars.
Nicknamed ‘The Buffalo’, the towering defender has appeared on the radar of the ‘big boys’ in the Ghana Premier League considering his vast experience on the continent, physically imposing presence, leadership qualities serving as a good resume and the perfect allure to his suitors.
Legon Cities, will be looking to improve on their abysmal performance in the just ended season, having identified Yakubu as a perfect complement to their defensive set-up ahead of the upcoming season.
SportsworldGhana.com, however, understands the Royals lead the race to ink a deal with the free agent player.
Meanwhile, record holders of the Ghana Premier League Asante Kotoko are also lurking in the shadows to lure Yakubu Mohammed to Kumasi as the Porcupine Warriors would want to reinforce their defense following the imminent departure of Wahab Adams as well as the prolonged contract negotiations with stalwart Abdul Ishmail Ganiyu.
It is also believed that reigning Ghanaian champions Accra Hearts of Oak and Medeama Sporting Club have also expressed interest in signing the ace defender.
The utility defender is yet to make his competitive bow for Ghana at the senior level despite featuring for the Black Stars in a friendly game against Qatar in Antalya, Turkey on 12 October 2020.
