Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, will set up their pre-Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) camp in South Africa, Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively report.
According to sources, the decision was reached collaboratively between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry, taking into account factors such as weather conditions and facilities.
The Black Stars are scheduled to commence their camp in South Africa in the coming days, in preparation for the AFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Ivory Coast starting from January 13, 2023.
During their stay in South Africa, the Black Stars are set to engage in a pre-tournament friendly against Botswana. This match has been strategically organized by the GFA to ensure that the team is well-prepared for the challenges of the upcoming AFCON.
The continental showdown in Ivory Coast will feature 24 national teams, with Ghana placed in Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique. The Black Stars will kick off their AFCON campaign on Sunday, January 14, facing a formidable Cape Verde side.
Head coach Chris Hughton has already submitted a provisional 55-man squad to CAF, and the final 27-man squad for the tournament will be selected before January 4, 2023.
