Former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has advised the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku not to repeat some of the mistakes his predecessor Kwesi Nyantakyi committed which led to his downfall.
According to Afriyie Ankrah, Kwesi Nyantakyi made some unfortunate mistakes that exposed him to public ridicule and wants the current FA boss to pick lessons from that as he leads the country’s football governing body until 2023.
‘’Kurt Okraku has not spent even a year as the GFA president so let’s give him the opportunity to prove himself,’’ he KUMASI FM 104.1MHZ.
‘’Let’s together support him with prayers to succeed but he must learn lessons from his predecessor and make sure he does not repeat those same mistakes,’’
The former CAF first vice president is currently serving a life-time ban after being found guilty of bribery and corruption.
FIFA’s ethics committee banned Nyantakyi “for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level,”.
The committee found Nyantakyi guilty of “conflicts of interest”, “bribery and corruption” and “commission” after being caught on camera accepting bribes.
In June 2018, a narrative by questionable analytical columnist Anas Aremeyaw Anas was communicated demonstrating concealed camera film of Ghanaian authorities supposedly accepting hush money, including Nyantakyi.
Nyantakyi was blamed for mentioning $11 million (9.3 million euros) to make sure about government contracts.
The disclosures shook Ghana, where football is simply the public game and which prides just like a steady vote based system in a frequently tempestuous locale.
Mr. Nyantakyi, who demands he is honest, is battling his case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
