Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston says the global ban handed to former Ghana FA chief Kwasi Nyantakyi is “harsh”.
Mr.Nyantakyi’s 13-year reign as Ghana FA’s boss, ended in massive embarrassment after the world body’s ethics committee banned him for life after being found guilty of bribery and corruption charges in October 30, 2018.
The committee found him guilty of “conflicts of interest”, “bribery and corruption” and “commission” after being caught on camera accepting alleged bribes.
But the former Loko Moscow winger who scored six goals in 41 caps for Ghana insists the punishment is harsh.
“For me I feel very sad and bad about that situation. He (Nyantakyi) Fred Pappoe had always been with during our time, he told Untold Stories which airs on Starr FM.
“Something like shouldn’t have happened. It should not happen to him or any human being. It’s very harsh and unfortunate.
“He had done extremely well compared to his predecessors. If you compare to him to the previous chairmen, he is if not the best if you put everything together.”
The former Caf’s first deputy president was weighed down by a slew of corruption allegations.
He has always denied the allegations, and has appealed FIFA’s ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport which is yet to be heard.
