Ghanaian international David Accam has opened up how he is combining football and fatherhood at the same time.
The Nashville attacker stressed that it has not been easy but he is a professional footballer and must always give his best on the field no matter the circumstances.
“It’s very difficult,” Accam told The Tennessean. “But also, I’m a professional (athlete) and this is my job. I still have to go in there with a good mindset, trying to get better as myself and to help us get better as a team. So, even though (our) baby is a new challenge, I’m happy doing both.”
“During preseason, (my wife and I) were just alone,” he said. “Now we have a newborn baby that doesn’t really sleep, so sometimes you wake up and you’re really tired, but still have to go in. It’s all about sacrificing and knowing your priorities. I’m a professional, so no matter how I feel, how bad or terrible I look, I still have to go in and work really hard.”
The Ghanaian featured in both Nashville’s two games before the MLS was suspended due to the pandemic and he is expected to start again when the competition resumes next month.
“It’s a new stage for me,” Accam said about playing in MLS as a father for the first time. “But I love this process and I know I’ll come out of this (tournament) a really strong person.”
Accam has already featured for Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew making a total of 109 MLS appearances scoring 38 goals and assisting 17.
