Ghanaian midfielder David Abagna played a pivotal role for APOEL FC on Monday evening, contributing to his team’s 2-0 win over Anorthosis in Round 8 of the Cyprus League.
The victory strengthens APOEL’s push for top positions in the league this season.
Abagna, who started the match, was key in the first half, helping control the midfield and supporting APOEL’s offensive play. The breakthrough came when Konstantinos Laifis scored, giving APOEL an early 1-0 lead.
Anorthosis faced further trouble when defender Sergio Conceição received a red card in the 38th minute, leaving them with ten men and giving APOEL a numerical advantage.
At halftime, APOEL made a tactical adjustment, substituting Abagna for Sergio Tejera to reinforce the midfield. Continuing to press, APOEL secured their win in the 79th minute with a second goal from Stefan Drazic.
While Abagna has yet to score his first goal for APOEL, he has been an essential player, featuring in seven matches this season. His reliable performances have boosted APOEL’s campaign, and fans are hopeful he will soon find the back of the net.
