Wilberforce Mfum, a former Asante Kotoko player has taken a subtle attack on current generational players for their poor attitude shown in their football career.
Mfum, 80, has described some of the players as lazy and indisciplined.
He claims they do not attach any seriousness to their football career, which has been the ultimate difference between their generation and the current players.
“The difference between the current players and our generation was the absence of boozing and womanizing,” Mfum told Kumasi based Abusua FM.
“We were well disciplined. Current players are so indisciplined and that has been the major difference.”
Mfum scored Ghana’s first goal in the 1963 AFCON game against Tunisia when the Black Stars hosted and won the tournament for the first time. He was the first runner-up goal king with five goals for Ghana in the 1968 Cup of Nations, when Ghana placed second.
He is of the belief that the current players are not putting in much effort into their playing career.
“Currently, players will decline to camp at the Accra Sports Stadium, Aburi, 37 Military camp. Can you tell a player to sleep on a mat on the floor during training camps? There is a big difference between our time and their time.
“These players are given first class treatment. We never slept in hotels. It only happens when we are preparing at camps in Aburi and 37 Military, and later move to Kumasi,” he said.
