The Coronavirus-19 threw the organization of the 2020 WAFU Zone B U20 tournament into big doubt but the Togo Fooball Association has reconfirmed its readiness to host the competition should the green light be given for its organization.
“We are pleased to inform you that Togo football association expresses its strong will to host the upcoming CAF sponsored WAFU B U20 AFCON scheduled for November 2020 a date which is pending confirmation due to Covid-19 outbreak ” a WAFU communication revealed.
The WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship is an association football tournament that is contested by national teams of Zone B of the West African Football Union.
Togo hosted the maiden edition in 2018. Eight teams were drawn in two groups of four. WAFU Zone B member teams were Ivory Coast, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria and Benin. Mali (from Zone A) replaced Côte d’Ivoire, who had withdrawn before the tournament, and Senegal (from Zone A) were invited to make the numbers up to eight as the tournament was won by Senegal
