Former Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has commended the involvement of Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan in the Black Stars’ setup ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Appiah, who currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, is responsible for Player Relations. While Gyan holds no official position, he has been actively engaging with the squad, offering guidance and motivation.
The former Ghana captain was present at the Accra Sports Stadium as the Black Stars secured a resounding 5-0 victory over Chad. He then traveled with the team to Morocco, where they continued their impressive form with a 3-0 win against Madagascar.
Reflecting on their contributions, Akonnor highlighted the positive impact of the two former captains on the team’s confidence and performance.
“The inclusion of former players, Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan, has positively impacted the team, boosting confidence with their experience and leadership,” he told Asempa FM.
The Black Stars will regroup in June for a four-nation tournament in England before resuming their qualification campaign against Chad and Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 in September.
