90min is reporting that after Chelsea failed to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window, they have reached out for a potential deal for Rennes winger Jeremy Doku.
The Blues have lodged an enquiry for the Rennes winger, who is rated very highly in the footballing community.
Former West Ham United defender Anton Ferdinand raved about Doku on the Five YouTube channel in April 2022.
Ferdinand said: “I really really like Jeremy Doku, I really like him. The pace and power of this kid is frightening and he knows those are his main attributes, and he uses it at every opportunity.”
Chelsea have already beaten Liverpool to the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia this summer and could beat Manchester City to sign Doku.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported this week that Doku has agreed personal terms with City and has already spoken to manager Pep Guardiola.
Tavolieri claimed that Rennes want at least €55 million (£47.03 million) in transfer fees for the 21-year-old.
That is a sum that City could easily afford.
And City are a hugely appealing club who regularly win the Premier League title and have a world-class manager in Guardiola.
We do not think that the winger would turn down the chance to join City to move to Chelsea.
For Rennes last season, the 21-year-old played as a right winger, right forward and left winger.
Doku made 13 starts and 16 substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Rennes in 2023-23.
The winger scored six goals and gave two assists in those matches.
The Belgium international also made two starts and two substitute appearances in the UEFA Europa League for Rennes last season.
Doku gave two assists in those matches.
