Asante Kotoko SC, representing Ghana at the prestigious Capital City Africa Cup in Washington, D.C., will depart for the USA on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has granted the team approval to participate in an international friendly match against Major League Soccer (MLS) side DC United on October 12, 2024, at the state-of-the-art Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
This annual ceremonial match is organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with the GFA and is part of the festivities marking Ghana Week DC 2024, which runs from October 7-12, 2024. The clash between these historic teams aims to amplify the celebration of Ghanaian culture in Washington, D.C.
This marks the second occasion a Ghana Premier League club will travel to the United States for a friendly match against an MLS side, following Medeama SC’s 2-1 defeat in a similar encounter on October 14, 2023.
Asante Kotoko SC aims to leave a lasting impression on the international stage while showcasing the talent of Ghanaian football. Before their trip to the USA, the Porcupine Warriors will face Accra Lions in a matchday five encounter at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, October 6.
Currently, Kotoko sits second in the league standings with eight points, just one point behind leaders Medeama.
