Black Meteors left-back Gideon Mensah, has wished his teammates good luck ahead of their 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament opening fixture against Cameroon.
The Meteors will play their first match of the tournament on Friday November 8, 2019, against Cameroon at the Cairo International Stadium.
Mensah, an integral member of Ibrahim Tanko’s side during the qualifiers, was not able to join the team in Egypt for the U23 Championship after his club S.V. Zulte Waregem failed to release him.
Nonetheless, the fast-growing Ghanaian left-back has sent good will message to the team and has backed them to beat Cameroon in the crucial showdown.
”Wishing the Ghana U23 side (The Black Meteors) the best of luck in the African U23 Championships which kicks of today in Egypt as the country bids to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 for the first time in 15 yrs. GO FOR GOLD! I believe you guys can do it,” Mensah tweeted.
The West Africans have been pitted in Group A where they are set to come up against host nation Egypt, Mali, and Cameroon.
