The Confederation of African Football has vehemently denied all the rumours suggesting that the organisation is finding it difficult to find an appropriate date for the 2025 AFCON.
AFCON has almost always been played in January and February with very few exceptions that the competition has been played outside these two months.
The expanded FIFA Club World Cup will be played in the USA in 2025 summer making many Africans wonder when the 2025 edition of the AFCON will be played. It is very clear that when the AFCON 2025 is fixed in the 2025 summer, it will clash with the FIFA Club World Cup.
Four teams have been confirmed to represent Africa in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup; Al Ahly, Esperance Sportive de Tunis, Wydad Casablanca and Mamelodi Sundowns.
It was rumoured the 2025 AFCON was going to be played in the 2025 summer immediately after the 2023 edition ended in Ivory Coast.
A couple of months ago, the news was everywhere on the continent that CAF has decided to play the competition between December 2025 and January 2026 making football fans on the continent wonder why CAF has been very inconsistent.
However, CAF has reported that all the news about the exact date for the 2025 AFCON is untrue.
“Reports on AFCON 2025 are untrue. The CAF Executive Committee will meet, deliberate and decide on the AFCON 2025 dates.
CAF will thereafter issue an official statement on the matter,” revealed CAF.
Per CAF’s statement, the date for the 2025 AFCON has not been set. CAF has stated that the Executive Committee will meet and find a suitable date for the competition.
