The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced the prize money for the inaugural African Football League (AFL) competition, featuring the highest-ranked and most successful football clubs on the African continent.
Scheduled to kick off on Friday, October 20, 2023, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the AFL will showcase Simba SC (Tanzania) and Al Ahly SC (Egypt) among others.
The prize money for the AFL is as follows:
- $4,000,000 for the winner
- $3,000,000 for the runner-up
- $1,700,000 for each of the semi-finalists
- $1,000,000 for each of the quarter-finalists
This prize money is both attractive and competitive, with the winning club needing to play only six matches to secure the substantial $4,000,000 prize.
Other renowned and top-ranked football clubs participating in the inaugural AFL include Enyimba FC (Nigeria), Wydad AC (Morocco), Mamelodi Sundowns FC (South Africa), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), and Atlético Petróleos de Luanda (Angola).
The AFL, established in partnership with FIFA, has several key objectives, including enhancing the global competitiveness of African club football, promoting the commercial viability of African football clubs, and fostering the development of youth football talent on the continent.
CAF aims to ensure that all 54 CAF Member Associations, including countries without clubs in the AFL, benefit from and receive financial contributions stemming from the commercial success of the league.
