The Accra Human Rights Court has issued its verdict in the case of contempt brought against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by demoted Ashanti Gold SC.
The Court has sentenced the General Secretary of the Ghana FA, Prosper Harrison Addo, and Sheikh Tophic Sienu to a day in jail and fined them each GHS24,000 for contempt.
However, 12 other defendants, including GFA President Kurt Okraku, have been acquitted and discharged. The case arose due to the GFA’s failure to comply with a court injunction imposed on the league by Dr. Kwaku Frimpong.
Prior to the start of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season, Ashanti Gold SC challenged their demotion to the National Division One League by taking the GFA to court.
When the league began despite the court order, the Obuasi-based club brought a contempt case, resulting in the conviction of Harrison Addo and Sienu.
