Madagascar Football Association President Ahmed Ahmed on Wednesday morning beat incumbent CAF President Issa Hayatou to end his 29-year leadership in African Football.
Ahmed Ahmed has been handed a four-year term to lead the confederation of African Football [CAF].
At 57, Ahmad Ahmad , the president of the Malagasy federation, was elected president of the CAF with 14 votes ahead of Issa Hayatou , who has led the proceeding since 1988, at a congress of the instance In Addis Ababa, on Thursday, 16 March.
The only rival of the football boss for more than thirty years, candidate for a 8th term, took advantage of his presence in Libreville on 13 January, on the eve of the CAN 2017 kick-off , to formally announce his decision to To be a candidate.
His candidacy was obtained a few days later the support of the presidents of the 14 federations of the Cosafa (Council of Federations of Southern Africa), a position that had tense relations between the CAF and the Cosafa.
Ahmed Ahmed pulled 34 votes against his competitor Issa Hayatou who had 20 votes at the 39 ordinary general Assembly held in Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia.
