Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan has named former Black Stars coach, Claude Le Roy as the gaffer who had the most impact on him as a player.
Gyan has played under some great coaches during his time time the national team, since making his debut in November 2003.
Le Roy was appointed as the head coach of the senior national team in 2006, taking control of the team till 2008, replacing Ratomir Dujkovic after the World Cup in Germany.
Claude Le Roy also led Ghana to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2008, which was hosted here, with Ghana finishing in third place after beating Ivory Coast in the game for the third position.
Despite the wide range of head coaches, Gyan named Le Roy as the best to have had the most impact on his career.
“I have worked with a lot of great coaches, but the coach who brought out the confidence in me was Claude Le Roy,” Gyan told TV3 Sports in an interview.
“I was battling injuries and I wasn’t in top shape during his time, but the way he related to me and gave me confidence was amazing.”
The Legon Cities forward also added that it was unfortunate he did very little to show his development under Le Roy but those were evident under subsequent head coach Milovan Rajevac.
“It was rather unfortunate I didn’t do much under him [Claude Le Roy]when he was around. It was the following year under ‘Milo’ my development manifested but it was Claude Le Roy who started it,” Gyan concluded.
