The Minister of Youth and Sports ,Honourable Nii Lante has disclosed that his outfit will “as a matter of policy” reward players and staff of the national Beach Soccer team, the Black Sharks for their qualification to the 2016 Beach Soccer AFCON tournament which will held in the Nigerian city of Lagos
The Minister could not watch the 7 – 1 battering of the Kenyans at the Laboma beach resort last Sunday because he was at the funeral ceremony of former Ghana Football Association(GFA) chairman ,Ben Koufie in Cape Coast. He however stated that he monitored the match and was impressed by the reports, calling the Black Sharks “an exceptionally talented team”
In view of this the Minister said he was going to explore the best means to reward the Black Sharks for their qualification to the AFCON. He asked the players to expect something from the ministry by next week.
The Minister noted that for the team to have qualified without any form of financial motivation is encouraging and deserve plaudits.
“The President of the nation, myself and the entire nation are proud of what you have achieved. We want to congratulate you for the feat you have chalked despite the challenges you faced”
The Ministry as a matter of policy will reward you for your qualification to the tournament. I will confer with the President and government and in due course we will in form you about the package the country has for you for qualifying. We’ve had discussions with your management and by next week we will communicate to you what we have for you”. Nii Lante disclosed
The Black Sharks last Sunday demolished their Kenyan counterparts 7 – 1 to record an emphatic 17-4 aggregate scoreline to qualify for the second edition of Beach Soccer AFCON.
The Sharks will be hoping to secure one of the two spots available to African teams in the Beach Soccer World Cup which will take place in Bahamas in April 2017
