Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye made a brilliant start to the French Ligue 2 season, scoring and providing an assist as Saint Etienne drew 3-3 with Laval on Saturday.
The 24-year-old started the game and played 71 minutes at the Stade Francis Le Basser. He was a key figure for his side, earning a Man-of-the-Match performance in a thrilling encounter.
Laval took the lead in the 14th minute through Malik Tchokounte, but Irvin Cardona equalised for Saint Etienne in the 27th minute. Boakye then put his side ahead in the 35th minute after being set up by Aimen Moueffek.
Laval quickly responded as Tchokounte scored again to make it 2-2 before halftime. After the break, Boakye turned provider, assisting Benjamin Old to restore Saint Etienne’s lead in the 51st minute.
However, the home team salvaged a point when Ethan Clavreul scored three minutes before full-time.
It was an impressive start to the season for Boakye, who will be hoping to help Saint Etienne push for promotion back to Ligue 1.
