Razak Abalora is on the verge of a return to Asante Kotoko at the end of the current season, following initial talks between the player and the Ghana Premier League giants.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper, who currently plays for Albanian top-flight side AF Elbasani, left Kotoko three years ago after a solid stint in Kumasi. His next move took him to Moldova, where he joined Sheriff Tiraspol in 2022, becoming the fourth Ghanaian to sign for the club within two years.
In 2023, Abalora moved to AF Elbasani on a three-year deal and quickly established himself as one of the standout performers in the Albanian league. This season, he made 27 appearances, kept 9 clean sheets, and played a crucial role in helping Elbasani secure a fifth-place finish with 50 points.
Despite having two years left on his contract, Abalora is expected to terminate his stay in Albania early in favor of a return to the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Sources close to the club confirm that Kotoko have held preliminary discussions with the former WAFA and Azam FC goalkeeper. His potential return coincides with uncertainty surrounding current Kotoko shot-stopper Frederick Asare, who has struggled for regular playing time this season.
While the club has reportedly agreed in principle to extend Asare’s contract, his limited appearances have raised questions about his future role, paving the way for Abalora’s possible homecoming.
Abalora’s return would mark a significant addition to Kotoko’s squad as they aim to rebuild for the upcoming campaign.
