Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko have identified Dari Aziz Haruna of Bechem United as a potential replacement for current goalkeeper Frederick Asare, whose future at the club remains uncertain ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Asare, 25, joined the Porcupine Warriors on a free transfer in 2022 but is yet to sign a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire in June 2025. Despite reports suggesting that Kotoko have agreed terms with him for a renewal, a final agreement has not been reached, leaving the door open for a possible exit.
In anticipation of a possible departure, the club has reportedly lined up Aziz Haruna, who has been one of the standout goalkeepers in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season. The Bechem United shot-stopper has made 27 league appearances, conceding just 19 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets — a record that has not gone unnoticed by the Kumasi-based club.
Asare, on the other hand, has struggled for consistent minutes this season, making only 15 league appearances, during which he kept seven clean sheets and conceded 12 goals. His reduced game time has also impacted his international prospects, having earned his first Black Stars call-up in 2023 but yet to make his senior debut.
Kotoko are expected to make a final decision on their goalkeeping department in the coming weeks as they prepare for a squad revamp under head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, with the summer transfer window approaching. The club remains hopeful of retaining Asare but will move quickly for Haruna should contract talks collapse.
Haruna’s potential arrival could mark another major move for Kotoko as they aim to strengthen their squad and mount a strong challenge for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title.
