Asante Kotoko are reportedly closing in on the signing of Dreams FC forward Joseph Esso as they prepare to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors are making a strong push to land the experienced attacker, who could soon join the exclusive list of players to have featured for both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
Esso, 28, had an impressive campaign with Dreams FC in the just-ended season, scoring 10 goals and providing one assist in 31 league appearances for the ‘Still Believe’ outfit.
According to Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio, Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has personally recommended Esso’s signing. The player is expected to meet with the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkrah, next week to finalise the deal.
The potential arrival of Esso would continue Kotoko’s early transfer activity, having already secured the services of Berekum Chelsea duo Hubert Gyau and captain Zackaria Fuseini, as well as Bechem United goalkeeper Haruna Aziz Dari.
In addition, two foreign players have arrived in Ghana and will undergo trials with the Kotoko technical team after the MTN FA Cup final. Contracts will be offered depending on their performance during the assessment period.
Kotoko are clearly intent on revamping their squad for a stronger campaign next season, and Esso’s experience and goal-scoring ability could prove a valuable addition.
