A member of the Ayew family and former Ghana midfielder, Solar Ayew has claimed Andre Ayew’s recent move to Al Sadd is a good omen for the Black Stars of Ghana in their quest for glory.
Andre put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Qatari club on Thursday after leaving Swansea City and Sola Ayew believes the move to Qatar may be the luck in getting the national team to win titles.
“It could be that the Qatar move will be the luck the country needed to ensure we win a title in the coming years and I believe something good will come from it,” he told Ashh FM.
Ghanaian footballers who have made the switch to the Arabian league have often been tagged as ‘money chasers’ in recent times.
Some often been criticised and Andre’s transfer is no exception to the criticism from the football community considering his status as the captain of the national team.
Sola Ayew explaining the decision to move to Qatar said: “It’s the dream of every footballer who believes has achieved it all in the game to move to secure the money, and that is the case of Andre too.”
“This is not the first time the family has seen someone move to Qatar, considering Abedi Pele and myself once played there before moving to Europe. It’s not something new in our family.
Responding to previous claims by Abedi Pele that players moving to Qatar wouldn’t be the best for the country’s national team, Sola added: “Sometimes situations make us take certain decisions so we all support him to play in the country. It’s not about his form but about enjoying football in Qatar.”
The former Black Stars midfielder also revealed the former Swansea City top-scorer had several offers from different clubs across Europe, citing Crystal Palace in England as one of the clubs who made an offer.
