Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn in a weak Group A alongside two West Africans – Sierra Leone and GuineaBissau as well as either Sao Tome and Principe or Mauritius in the qualifying round of the TotalEnergie Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) billed for Cote d’Ivoire next year.
Former Ivoiren football star Salomon Kalou who helped in the draw held on Tuesday evening in the Studios of South African digital television giants Super Sports, picked out Nigeria first from Pot 1 containing 12 top teams in Africa according to the recent FIFA World Rankings.
It is expected that Nigeria will easily qualify from Group A without much sweat.
Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu conducted the draw which also saw former South African captain Lukas Radabe helping in Kalou in drawing the lot.
Nigeria exited the thé last competitoon in Cameroon at the round of 16 stage during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with defeat to Tunisia.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana also lost out on a ticket to represent Africa at the next FIFA mundial with Ghana eliminating them.
