The Black Stars of Ghana have been drawn in Group C for the TOTAL Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Cameroon next year.
Ghana was put in ‘Pot 2’ ahead of draw, alongside heavyweights like Egypt, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea after failing to finish the qualifiers as group leaders.
Coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor’s side have however been handed a tricky draw for the tournament, which begins early next year in Cameroon. Ghana are joined in ‘Group C’ by Gabon, Comoros Island and North African side, Morocco.

While many will feel the Black Stars have been handed a fair draw, the team, which last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982 has a lot of work to do if they are to add to that tally at the end of the 2022 edition in Cameroon.
The closest Gabon has come to winning the AFCON trophy was a quarter-final place in 1996 and 2012 while Comoros are an emerging football country looking to cause an upset.
Morocco’s best result at the Africa Cup of Nations was their triumph in the 1976 edition, which was hosted in Ethiopia, beating Guinea to the prestigious trophy.
Ghana will definitely have to put in the efforts in the coming months and have the best of preparations to come out as eventual winners of the tournament.
