Relegation candidate, Elmina Sharks FC downed XI Wonders from Techiman on Friday afternoon in the Ghana Premier League week 29 clash.
The home team boosted their quest to survive in the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League with a 2-1 win at home to move up the table after playing a game more than the other teams.
Two minutes into the game, Benjamin Bernard Boateng controlled a rebound with his chest at the edge of the box and sent in a perfect strike which struck the upright and into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Three minutes later, Boateng latched onto a long pass and went around the goalkeeper after excellently trapping the ball to slot home the second goal to put the hosts 2-0 under the first 10 minutes .
XI Wonders came back stronger into the game and started dominating the game and created some decent chances but they failed to convert the opportunities that came their way.
Elmina Sharks were dangerous on the counter attacks but also could not make use of the few openings they got in front of goal after taking a two-goal lead.
Later on in the game, Alex Asamoah thought he had reduced the deficit to one for the visitors but his perfect goal was flagged for offside as the goal was chalked off.
Ten minutes after the break, Abdul Ganiu Abass pulled one back for the away team after controlling the ball in the box to power home on the 55th minute mark to make it 2-1.
Later on in the game, youngster Michael Osei’s long ranger hit the cross bar and went way over the goal line but a goal was not given and Alex Asamoah who was in an on-side position for the rebound was flagged offside after his header had struck the bar.
Wonders were the better side in the second half of the match but could not find the back of the net as it ended 2-1 in Elmina in favour of Sharks.
Sharks moves to 14th on the table with 34 points from 29 matches and one point above Wonders who are on 33 points after 29 games.
