Jordan Ayew is pledging to deliver for the fans as he finds his feet at Swansea City.
Signed from Aston Villa at the end of January, Ayew is still getting used to his new surroundings having arrived in Wales just a week ago as a result of the Africa Cup of Nations.
But the Ghana star has already heard his name being sung at the Liberty Stadium.
Ayew made his Swans debut in last Sunday’s 2-0 win over Leicester City, coming off the bench for the final 18 minutes.
And within seconds of Ayew’s arrival on the pitch, the Jack Army were chanting about him.
“It has been a great start for me at the club,” the former Marseille forward said.
“I have had a great welcome from everybody and I am very happy to be here.
“The supporters have given me a great welcome too so everything is good.
“They were fantastic when I came on against Leicester. They have shown me support straightaway and now I will do my best to pay them back on the pitch.”
Ayew helped Paul Clement’s team ease to victory against Leicester after first-half goals from Alfie Mawson and Martin Olsson had done the damage.
The Foxes triumph means the Swans have chalked up four wins in their last six top-flight outings, making them one of the division’s form teams.
Having been bottom of the table at the turn of the year, they are now four points clear of the relegation places in 15th place.
But the message at the training ground this week has been that there is still much work to be done.
“It was fantastic to get three points on my debut – I could not have asked for more,” Ayew added.
“My job when I came on was to make some runs to help push Leicester back. That’s what I tried to do.
“But the most important thing was that we won and moved further away from the relegation zone.
“It is only February, though, and there are a lot of points still to play for. What the team have done in 2017 is phenomenal but we have to keep going. There is a long way to go.”
Ayew will hope for another chance to impress when the Swans return to action at Chelsea a week on Saturday.
The 25-year-old, who can operate on the wing or up front, is already eyeing a first goal for his new club.
“I have just arrived, I have to train very hard and get to know my team-mates,” he said.
“I have to make sure I am as fit as possible for the games.
“And when a striker comes into a new club, you have to score some goals when the chances come.”
