The all-time leading goalscorer for the Black Stars says the act of converting penalties is now much easier task for him after missing a crucial last minute penalty against Uruguay in South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana could have become the first African nation to reach the semifinals of the World Cup but Gyan failed to score a 120th minute penalty against Uruguay as the Black Stars went on to lose the resulting penalty shootouts following a 1-1 draw but Gyan says he has learnt from his mistakes and is now a better penalty taker.
“Previously I used to take penalties without looking at the movementa of the goalkeeper. Because I have the technique I just target an angle and then shoot” Gyan said on Max TV.
“But after the penalty miss against Uruguay in the World Cup I change the way I take penalties. Now I watch the goalkeeper, I look at his moves and how he makes his steps and then I shoot. So now it is much easier for me” the former Sunderland striker added.
After the 2010 World Cup Gyan missed another penalty against Zambia in a semifinal tie at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and after series of criticisms from Ghanaian football fans he decided to impose a personal ban on him that prohibited him from penalty duties as he plays for Ghana.
Gyan is currently without a club.
