Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, says his biggest regret in football is playing at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
Gyan was maligned by Ghanaians during and after the competition in what was described as a poor performance from the former Sunderland striker.
The 34-year-old was the lead man for the Black Stars but only managed to score once in the competition after netting from the penalty spot in the opening game against Guinea.
The striker indicates his biggest regret was to play at the tournament hosted in Ghana.
“I regret playing at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, because I was injured but I felt I needed to sacrificed but yet I was criticized,” he said in an interview with GTV Sports+
“I really regret playing in the tournament, because even after that I had to go out for five months, I was supposed to sign for Manchester City but I missed. That has been one of my biggest regrets with the National team.”
The former Black Stars captain announce a pre-mature retirement from the National team during the competition but had to rescind that decision.
Ghana, four-time African champions, missed out on an opportunity to win the Cup of Nations on home soil losing to Cameroon in the Semi-finals.
