Football legend Samuel Eto’o has been re-elected as President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), securing an emphatic mandate to lead the country’s football for another four-year term.
The 43-year-old former Barcelona and Inter Milan superstar stood as the sole candidate in the presidential election held on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Delegates delivered near-unanimous support, with official results confirming that Eto’o received 85 out of 87 votes, while the remaining two ballots were declared invalid.
The landslide victory—representing 97.7 percent of valid votes—extends his leadership through 2029 and underscores the strong internal confidence in his stewardship.
Eto’o, a four-time African Footballer of the Year and one of Africa’s most decorated players, first won the presidency in December 2021 on a reform-driven platform promising transparency and a major overhaul of Cameroonian football administration.
His initial tenure was marked by significant challenges, including legal scrutiny and public friction with the sports ministry. However, his efforts to professionalize the domestic league, improve infrastructure, and strengthen national teams across all categories have remained central to his leadership.
With his second term now confirmed, Eto’o is expected to deepen the reforms launched over the past four years while navigating the complex dynamics of football governance in Cameroon.
In his post-election statement, the former striker expressed gratitude for the renewed trust placed in him, pledging to continue driving transformation and ensuring sustained progress within the Cameroonian football ecosystem.
