President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says his biggest ambition as head of Ghanaian football is to see the Black Stars lift the FIFA World Cup trophy during his tenure.
The four-time African champions secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer. Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the global showpiece, hoping to surpass its best-ever run to the quarter-finals in 2010, where they narrowly missed out on a historic semi-final spot after a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Uruguay.
Speaking to 3Sports, Okraku declared his firm belief that Ghana should approach the tournament with a winning mindset rather than just participation.
“I want to win the World Cup. I want to win the World Cup. I’m going to tell the coach that I want to win the World Cup. That should be our vision,” Okraku said.
“Because you don’t go to war thinking about not finishing it or not coming out as victors.”
As part of preparations for the tournament, Ghana will play two international friendlies in Asia — against Japan on November 14 and South Korea on November 18 — to test their strength against top-tier opposition.
The Black Stars will learn their group-stage opponents on December 5, when FIFA conducts the official World Cup draw.
