Sports Minister Kofi Adams has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Black Stars coach Otto Addo, despite Ghana leading Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking on Wednesday, September 10, the minister said he could not describe himself as impressed, stressing that doing so would mean he does not understand his job. He explained that while Ghana currently sits first with 19 points after eight matches, the team’s inconsistency and narrow wins remain a major concern.
Kofi Adams reminded Ghanaians that qualification is not yet secured, as the Black Stars still need at least a win and a draw from their remaining two matches. He also cautioned that Ghana’s failure to qualify for the upcoming AFCON should serve as a warning sign.
According to him, Otto Addo himself has admitted to making mistakes, but the minister questioned how long such errors could continue. He insisted that the coach must tighten his tactics, improve discipline in the squad, and deliver convincing performances to restore confidence.
The Black Stars, four-time African champions, need four more points to book a place in the 2026 World Cup to be staged in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
