Congolese defender Gilbani Ndongani Samba O’Neil has shared his thoughts on his first season with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, expressing mixed emotions after helping the club secure silverware.
The 25-year-old joined Kotoko ahead of the 2024/25 season and quickly became a mainstay in the squad, making 30 appearances in the Ghana Premier League and scoring one goal. His solid performances played a key role in the club’s campaign.
Despite falling short in the league title race, Kotoko finished the season on a high by lifting the MTN FA Cup, securing their return to continental football.
Reflecting on his debut season, Samba O’Neil admitted he was disappointed not to have achieved a domestic double with the Porcupine Warriors.
“I wanted to win two trophies with Asante Kotoko, but it didn’t happen,” he told the club’s media. “I’m not happy because I won only one trophy—the FA Cup—with my team.”
Kotoko’s FA Cup triumph has earned them a spot in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, and Samba O’Neil is expected to play a key role in their quest to make a strong impression on the continental stage.
