Asante Kotoko winger Bernard Somuah will remain in Spain for another season after extending his loan deal with La Liga side RC Celta Vigo. The agreement, confirmed by both clubs, includes an option for the Spanish club to make the move permanent at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Somuah, 20, initially joined Celta Vigo’s youth ranks on loan from Kotoko in August 2024. His impressive performances with Celta B in the Spanish third tier, Primera Federación, have earned him a continued place in the club’s plans.
The Ghanaian winger made 29 appearances for Celta B during the 2024/25 campaign, contributing 5 goals, 4 assists, 21 chances created, 47 successful dribbles, and maintaining a pass accuracy of 83%. His explosive pace, ability to beat defenders, and creativity on the flanks made him a standout performer under head coach Claudio Giráldez.
Celta B narrowly missed out on the promotion playoffs, but Somuah’s consistency was one of the bright spots in their season. The loan extension offers him another opportunity to continue his development and possibly break into Celta Vigo’s senior team.
A statement from RC Celta Vigo emphasized their belief in the winger’s potential, noting that the option to buy reflects the club’s long-term interest in securing his services permanently.
Back in Ghana, Asante Kotoko have expressed satisfaction with Somuah’s progress. Club sources indicate the Porcupine Warriors would be open to a permanent transfer if Celta decide to activate the buy clause.
Somuah, who remains eligible for Ghana’s U-23 national team, is widely regarded as one of Kotoko’s brightest youth exports in recent years. His loan extension marks another significant step in his journey as he seeks to establish himself in European football.
The 2025/26 season will be crucial for Somuah as he looks to push for promotion to Celta’s senior squad or earn a permanent deal with the Spanish outfit.
