Spanish giants FC Barcelona have opted not to secure the services of Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah on a permanent basis following the conclusion of his season-long loan.
The 19-year-old joined Barça Atlètic from Dreams FC during the last summer transfer window. His loan deal included an option to buy, but the clause was ultimately not activated by the Catalan club.
Issah made a promising start in Spain, earning an invitation to train with the first team under new manager Hansi Flick. He later featured briefly in two matches—against Real Sociedad B and Nastic—making substitute appearances in both.
However, the attacking midfielder’s momentum soon stalled as he struggled to earn regular playing time. He found himself out of the matchday squad on several occasions, suggesting he had fallen out of the coach’s immediate plans.
Before his move to Spain, Issah was in brilliant form for Dreams FC. He finished as the top scorer in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup with four goals and two assists in 10 appearances, helping the Ghanaian side reach the semi-finals for the first time in their history. Although they were eliminated by Zamalek, his influence was instrumental throughout the campaign.
Domestically, Issah had a hand in 17 goals during the Ghana Premier League season, scoring seven and providing 10 assists. He also impressed on the international stage, playing a crucial role in Ghana’s gold-medal triumph at the 2023 African Games and delivering standout performances in the CAF U-20 Championship.
The young playmaker is now set to return to Dreams FC, with his future in Europe remaining uncertain at this stage.
