Berekum Chelsea secured a commanding 3-1 win over Accra Lions at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa, with Stephen Amankona delivering a stunning hat-trick to propel his team to victory as the Ghana Premier League resumed.
Accra Lions, struggling in the 2024/25 season, managed to score a late consolation goal through Nigerian forward David Akintunde, but their troubles continued.
The match began at a slow pace, but Chelsea broke the deadlock after capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Amankona reacted quickly to an error at the back, firing his team into the lead.
Shortly after halftime, the hosts doubled their advantage when Amankona calmly converted a penalty in the 50th minute. Chelsea continued to dominate, and the veteran forward completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute, putting the game firmly out of reach for the visitors.
Despite making several tactical adjustments under coach Rainer Kraft, Accra Lions could only find a late goal. A well-worked move between Nigerian duo Lucky Nwafor and Akintunde saw the latter find the net, but it was not enough to change the outcome.
Chelsea’s impressive performance saw them claim all three points, while Accra Lions’ struggles in the league persisted.
