Bechem United head coach Kwaku Danso has made it clear that his primary focus is on nurturing talent for the market and helping players secure invitations to the national teams, rather than pursuing the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title.
“Winning the Ghana Premier League title is not our priority. We are focused on the business aspect of the game. Football is now business, so we are nurturing talent for the market to sustain the club,” Danso stated.
Having joined Bechem United before the start of the season, Danso emphasized the team’s commitment to enhancing players’ market value by facilitating national team call-ups. “We also have a plan to help some of our players secure national call-ups to boost their market value,” he added.
While Danso acknowledges that winning the league is not their main goal, he insists the team aims to finish in a respectable position to avoid relegation by the end of the campaign. “At the end of the season, we expect to finish in a respectable position to avoid relegation, but the priority is not to win the league,” he explained.
Despite not having clinched the league title since gaining promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight in September 2011, Bechem United does have one FA Cup title, which they won in 2016 after defeating Okwawu United.
Currently sitting 10th in the Ghana Premier League standings with eight points after six matches, the Hunters will face Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex on Sunday for matchday 7.
