Hearts of Oak have sacked their captain, Kofi Agbesimah, from the team’s Pobiman training ground by coach Aboubakar Ouattara, amidst a dispute over his recent behavior.
The 27-year-old defender, who joined the Phobians from Bechem United last summer, has reportedly requested to terminate his contract, citing various issues.
Despite having a year remaining on his deal, Agbesimah has expressed his desire to leave the club, which has caused tension between him and the coaching staff. Ouattara was said to be displeased with the player’s attitude and dismissed him from training on Monday.
Agbesimah had an impressive campaign in the 2023/24 season, making 30 league appearances and scoring one goal. He established himself as a key member of the team and was named as the club captain following the departure of Gladson Awako.
His departure would be a significant blow to Hearts of Oak, who rely heavily on his experience and leadership. The club is yet to comment on Agbesimah’s proposed contract termination.
The development comes as Hearts of Oak prepare for the upcoming Democracy Cup against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko. The team’s preparation has been disrupted by the unexpected turn of events, and it remains to be seen how they will cope without their captain.
As the situation unfolds, Agbesimah’s future at Hearts of Oak hangs in the balance, leaving fans eager to see what the next move will be for both parties.
