Former Black Stars player, Augustine Arhinful has urged coach Chris Hughton to update Ghanaians on duo Alfred Duncan and Jefrrey Schlupp who have retired prematurely from the national team.
Joseph Alfred Duncan announced his retirement from the Black Stars at the age of 28 on May 28, 2022, after feeling ‘left aside for years’ by past coaches in the national team.
Jefrrey Schlupp on the other hand hasn’t communicated his retirement officially but sources close to the player have said he won’t play for Ghana again after he was controversially left of the World Cup squad.
Augustine Arhinful believes that the aforementioned players made the decision under previous coaches and Chris Hughton can bring them back with certain assurances.
He urged the coach to tell Ghanaians if he wants the two players back in the team and if he has made any contact with them.
“Alfred Duncan retired before he felt a certain regime was not treating him well. Schlupp also left because of the World Cup. These things happened under a different era.”
“Chris Hughton should let us know if he is interested in the two players or not because they can really help the team,” he said on Akoma FM.
