Jordan Ayew, an attacker for the Black Stars, has called on Ghanaians to exercise patience with the current group of players on the national team following a disappointing performance in the October international friendlies.
Ghana concluded their friendlies this month with a humiliating 4-0 defeat to the United States of America at GODIES Park in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday morning. Giovanni Reyna scored a first-half brace, and goals from Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun contributed to the North Americans’ victory, embarrassing Chris Hughton and his team.
However, Ayew emphasized in a post-match interview that most of the current Black Stars players are relatively inexperienced and will require time to build cohesion.
“First of all, I feel like we need a bit of time because it is a new group with a lot of new players, and most of the players are inexperienced, so it is not easy. But we are working on it because we know we don’t have time, and these types of games serve as a reality check,” Ayew told reporters.
The four-time African champions will now shift their focus to the World Cup qualifiers in November.
Ghana will begin the qualification round against Madagascar on November 13 and face Comoros on November 21, followed by the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire next year.
